I have visited some pretty interesting blogs. Just the fact that they are foreign interests me because it’s cool to see some of the things that are done around the world. One of the blogs was Jack’s from Australia. This one was cool, because it was real simple. I like the blog about his pet. Check it out. http://charlie2008.edublogs.org/

Another one that was cool was Beau’s blog. I assume that he was interested in video games, and the pictures on his blog were almost as if high-definition. Once you go to his page they are the focal points of his page. Check his out. http://beau56c08.learnerblogs.org/

The last one I visited was Corey’s blog. This blog was my favorite. All he had was simple things that he wrote about, but it was very cool just to read about it. This is the best one. http://corey56c08.learnerblogs.org/

A festival that I have been to is Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is know for the food. The main meal is turkey, but my family makes many others. Thanksgiving is usually held at my Aunts house. This year it was held at my cousins in Virginia. It was really fun. We had lots of food, and I finally got to talk to them, because I haven’t seen them in a long time.

Thanksgiving started way back with the pilgrims. They landed in Massachusetts in 1620. They held a feast of thanks for their landing. It lasted a whole three days. That is not how long Thanksgiving lasts anymore. Some good foods that are made are turkey, cranberry sauce, potatoes, corn, many more vegetables, and stuffing. It is great, and I know my best friend Brian loves Thanksgiving. He eats everything in sight, and this is the best time for him to express that. But Thanksgiving isn’t just about the food. It’s real sweet to see your family, like the ones I saw in Virginia.

Thanksgiving is awesome, and I can’t wait for it to come again next year. It happens the last Thursday of November every year. Desert is the best part, Brian’s favorite too. Apple Pie, Cheesecakes, carrot cakes, crumb cakes, ice cream, brownies, cookies, canolies, and so much more.

President-elect Barack Obama

Dear Mr. President,

Congratulations on winning the 2008 presidential election! I’ve been hearing of all the changes you are going to make to our community and I believe that America will become a more stable and independent country.

I also believe that education is key to a better community. You should really work on reforming No Child Left Behind. Without an education, people cannot get a good job and contribute something greater to society. The Zero to Five Plan is an amazing idea. I went to kindergarten a year late because I was not properly prepared. I look forward to a better educational system.

I think NCLB has to be reformed immediately. I myself dislike the standardized tests because most of the information is not relevant to the main focus of the school year. I did not know that the under funded schools were punished rather than funded. Those children need a proper education and they need up to date books and a modernized educational system. No Child Left Behind is currently not the situation.

I also think math and science a national priority. Most people do not like math and flunk, but we use math every day and it is the most useful. You cannot get a qualified job without knowledge of math. You also have the make sure that the math teachers are top quality. Math is a tricky subject, and the majority does not get math as well as other school subjects.  I am in algebra and this is the first year I have actually had to think in math. Science is very interesting and if taken greater interest, children would enjoy school more. If we had a stronger math and science curriculum, there would be a lot more people with higher paying jobs.

Education is the most important think our country needs to focus on to prepare for the future. A good education will lead to less poverty and street crime. With all the government funding, I will not have to worry as much for college expenses. You will do a great job as the president of the United States.

                                                                                                Sincerely,

Before, I was not aware that batteries cause that much harm to our environment. They can leak and contaminate soil and groundwater. I do use a lot of batteries and most are not rechargeable, so I am going to start to use all rechargeable batteries. This can save me money because each battery can be charged charged thousands of times so I figured that is at least a couple of years of use instead of buying new batteries every week. There are a lot of hazardous wastes found in batteries so please, use alternative sources of power.

Veterans Day

Veterans Day is a holiday in the United States to honor military veterans. In other countries it is called “Remembrance Day”. Woodrow Wilson had made this holiday on November 11, 1919. Seven years later, congress passed a concurrent resolution. It became a legal holiday on May 13, 1938. Originally it was to honor the veterans of World War 1 but Al King started a campaign to make it “All” Veterans Day. To celebrate Veterans Day, they have ceremonies to honor the veterans.

If countries in poverty had a better education, then it would be easier for them to get out of poverty. With a good education, they could get a good job and be able to make alot of money to support their family. They can move to a different area where it is a safer place to raise a family. So if we donated a dollar a person, that could get the world out of poverty.

I live in Wallingford, Connecticut. The weather here is very nice, although it is starting to get chilly.  My middle school is from 8 a.m. to 2:25 p.m. It has eight periods and the last is a study hall. A good place to visit is Mountain Fun.

National Bully Week

I have just visited the National Bully Week website and it made me relize a couple of things. One, is that there are a lot of bullys around shcools; more than you think. Even the littlest thing, such as a nickname or a rumor can hurt somebodys feelings and you think they are taking it as a joke. This is a very good website and you should check it out to keep up your bully awareness.

Although they should have a section called “What makes a bully”, because thats what I got out of this site
